Research Proposals

I feel like each presenter had their pros and cons.

Pros

  • great focal points
  • usage of hand gestures
  • straight to the point
  • had efficient amount of evidence to back up their focal points

Cons
  • vocabulary/speech was stuttering and repetitive
  • claim was vague
  • read directly from the powerpoint
  • speaking volume low and not intriguing
  • some very dull presentations

Rap (Music)

The topic I choose for my essay is Rap (Music).

Research Question: Is Rap Music A Negative Influence On Society?

Claim: Rap music has positive and negative influences on society.

Why This Topic: I choose this topic because I feel it is very debatable and more complex than people give it credit for. I also choose this topic because, it is the actual career that I want to pursue and I already know a little bit about the topic.

Audience: I am trying to reach all different type of audiences. Those who like listening rap music, those who don't like listening to rap music. The people who think it is negative as well as the people who think it is positive.

STAND BY ME

INVENTION (Discovery)

The creator of this video Had to first come of with the idea. Then he had to come up with the money for the equipment and travel expenses for all the trips he would have to take. He also had to find the talented street performers.

DISPOSITION (Arrangement)

He starts the video off in one area with one street performer and one instrument then, goes around the world to other states and countries using multiple performers and instruments.

STYLE

He chooses a very old classical song that most people would know or remember to display his message.

MEMORY (Knowledge)

Even though each musician had a different instrument or different way of singing the song, they all still song the same lyrics with the same message.

DELIVERY
The creator chose to deliver this message through song. Obviously an oral message.

IMAGE

This image stands out to me because is a gathering of people. They are all just sitting around each other PEACEFULLY playing their instruments and singing together. I believe that people coming together like this argues against violence.

MEDIA VIOLENCE?

According to Gerard Jones, violent media can have positive effects on young people because, "children need violent entertainment order to explore the inescapable feelings that they've been taught to deny." Jones also believes that violent media has a strong influence on children because, "it has helped inspire some people to real-life violence." Jones makes some good points for example, "Rage can be an energizing emotion." However, Jones also has cons such as his refutation. in his refutation he says, "I'm not going to argue that violent entertainment is harmless." Then immediately goes back to his argument by saying, "it's helped hundreds of people for every one its hurt." All in all, I agree with Jones argument but, I also believe that he did not present his argument or make it as convincing as he should have.

In one recent NEWS event, a 19-year-old shot up the school and killed 17 innocent people because he got suspended. I don't think violent media caused his actions but lack of home discipline and home training. I think he knew what he wanted to do before he even did it.

College is a Waste of Time

Paragraph #3 contains the thesis statement "pillar." The thesis is, "College fails to empower us with the skills necessary to become productive members of today’s global entrepreneurial economy."

Paragraphs #4, and 6 contains the evidence "pillar." In paragraph 4 the author says "College is expensive. The College Board Policy Center found that the cost of public university tuition is about 3.6 times higher today than it was 30 years ago, adjusted for inflation." in paragraph 6 he says "We are the disruptive generation creating the “free agent economy” built by entrepreneurs, creatives, consultants, and small businesses envisioned by Daniel Pink in his book, A Whole New Mind: Why Right Brainers Will Rule the Future."

Paragraph #9 contains the refutation "pillar." In paragraph 9 he anticipates the other sides argument by saying "Of course, some people want a formal education. I do not think everyone should leave college, but I challenge my peers to consider the opportunity cost of going to class."

Paragraph #10 contains the conclusion "pillar." In paragraph 10 he restated the thesis by saying, "We who take our education outside and beyond the classroom understand how actions build a better world. We will change the world regardless of the letters after our names."

The author appeals to his audience in multiple ways. He explains his argument very thoroughly and provides evidence to back it up while using logos, ethos, and pathos. Also, he didn't turn the argument into a one-sided statement or contradiction. So, the audience was able to better relate and understand his argument.

Russia Probe

                                               Sarah Sanders
Image result for stop wasting our money
Sarah uses logos in her arguments due to the facts that she was giving out to the reporter, but she also adds spin to many of her statements. One example could be found at the beginning of the video when she says, "I don't think he felt like he was on the hook, I think he knew all along that the accusations was a huge hoax." This is just the beginning of when she is trying to persuade the audience that the DNS and the Clintons were colluding with the Russians.

Tomi Lahren
Tomi uses pathos and ethos in argument as you can tell by some of the emotionally charged words or phrases she uses such as " I think i speak for both sides when i say we are sick and tired of this corrupt politician wasting our money and time."  She shows her use of ethos by giving Trump credit saying, "Trump won the election fair and square." She uses words and say phrases that include herself in the audience.

Mark Mazzetti
Mark uses logos in his argument just as Sarah Sanders did. He states facts about his argument as well. For example, he said the dossier was not the basis of the FBI investigation. he gives a valid argument and states so verbal proof/evidence to back up his argument.

Matt Apuzzo
Matt uses logos in his argument by stating facts of information that he received form leaked emails about some Russian activities/relations going on with the Trump campaign.
