According to Gerard Jones, violent media can have positive
effects on young people because, "children need violent entertainment
order to explore the inescapable feelings that they've been taught to
deny." Jones also believes that violent media has a strong influence on
children because, "it has helped inspire some people to real-life
violence." Jones makes some good points for example, "Rage can be an
energizing emotion." However, Jones also has cons such as his refutation.
in his refutation he says, "I'm not going to argue that violent
entertainment is harmless." Then immediately goes back to his argument by
saying, "it's helped hundreds of people for every one its hurt." All
in all, I agree with Jones argument but, I also believe that he did not present
his argument or make it as convincing as he should have.
In one recent NEWS event, a 19-year-old shot up the school
and killed 17 innocent people because he got suspended. I don't think violent
media caused his actions but lack of home discipline and home training. I think
he knew what he wanted to do before he even did it.
